Vancouver Zero Emissions Centre set to launch

The Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) in partnership with the City of Vancouver, Passive House Canada and the Open Green Building Society has announced the launch of the Vancouver Zero Emissions Building Centre of Excellence (the Centre), a collaborative platform to strengthen the public, private and civic capacities to deliver zero emissions buildings.

As host of the Centre, VRCA will work closely with many key partners as well as industry stakeholders that have voiced their support for this initiative.

The mission of the Centre is to rapidly accelerate the capacity and enthusiasm of local developers, designers and builders to deliver cost-effective, attractive, zero emissions new residential and commercial buildings in Vancouver. Recognizing that knowledge, inspiration, and the building industry itself is not confined to municipal boundaries, the Centre aspires to learn from both local and global leaders and to expand its mission to support zero emissions building across the province.

The Centre will be located at the Hive, 128 W. Hastings Street, Vancouver.

CIPH National Water Wise Award

The Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) presented Steam Whistle with its National Water Wise Award for the brewery’s commitment to water conservation and purification in its core operations.

Steam Whistle recently launched a new program to conserve as much water as possible through the installation of water-saving equipment like its new bottle washer, keg filling line and shower heads on the packaging line.

Beyond water, the brewery’s environmental efforts also include green packaging, using Bullfrog power, bio diesel fuels in delivery trucks, tapping into Enwave’s Deep Water Cooling for temperature control, energy efficient equipment and lighting and waste diversion.

The CIPH award program was developed to recognize outstanding efforts to improve our relationship with water. Past recipients of the CIPH Water Wise Award include WaterAid Canada, Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre, le Fonds Éco IGA, Fisheries & Marine Institute of Memorial University, and Co-op Refinery Complex.
